Happy Holidays everybody!! In honour of the impending changes that January will bring I wanted to take a second to reflect… on a few of the popular YA series that I haven’t read or finished reading yet. This doesn’t encompass ALL of the series that I haven’t read, just a few of the popular ones that everyone raves about.
You’ll come to see that I’m a serial unfinisher of series. As a self-proclaimed book blogger, this is a little painful to admit. However, the New Year is coming and so this is a chance to get all these series read in 2019. Maybe sooner if my order of the Raven Cycle comes on time!
Here we go…
This series is so popular, I don’t need the full title or the author. You know what it is and who they are. I’ve read the first book in the series (and loved it!), but just haven’t gotten around to the others. I think it’s because I know things are getting dramatic and I’m way too attached to all of the characters (except Tamlin, screw him) so I don’t have the emotional bandwidth to process anything bad happening TO ANY OF THEM. I will read and finish all the books though. I’m determined.
2. The Raven Cycle Series.
Once again, read and loved the first book. As someone who grew up moving from city to city repeatedly, the idea of a tribe – a de facto group of friends that becomes a close-knit family is really important to me. I would protect these characters with my life if it came down to that. The reason I haven’t finished the series is the same one as above – I’m a coward. All of the characters are really beautiful though.
3. The Throne of Glass Series.
I read the first book and was annoyed by the “I’m so perfect and incredible” vibe coming from Celaena, so I never bothered reading any of the others. To be honest though, I don’t remember much of this book and so many people have told me that the second book is quite redeeming, so who knows? I may revisit the series, mainly because bookstagram is a landmine of Kingdom of Ash spoilers and I can’t take it anymore. Also, I’m curious about all the couplings.
4. Ember Quartet.
This is a rare series in which I read and loved two of the books back to back. I loved An Ember in the Ashes and quite literally gobbled up A Torch in the Night. This series only makes the list because I haven’t read the third book yet, but definitely will do so in 2019. That’s a promise that I’m making to myself.
5. The Red Queen Series.
Loved the first book, lost interest sometime during the second. I don’t know if anyone else does this, but I spend a lot of time imaginatively inserting myself as a character in different series and working through what my life would be like. Doing this gave me a headache during Glass Sword. Consequently, I took a break from the book and then wandered off.
6. Six of Crows.
I own the first book because I bought it off Amazon during my senior year of uni, but time escapes me.
Come January, I’ll make it a goal to finish one of these series every month alongside my monthly TBR’s. That sounds like a lot, but I find that YA novels never take me all that long to read. With a little determination and a lot of ignoring my job, I could probably read one every two days. I’m even getting a head start because my dumb self bought all four books in the Raven Cycle series, despite the fact that I’m moving house soon. Hopefully the books will arrive sometime soon!
Are there any series that you haven’t read yet on this list?
