I’m beginning this blog with one of the “in-between” bits that don’t really fall into either book blogging or style blogging. Instead, I’m talking about the process of leaving the nest. I’ve spent the last few months at home with my parents and now I’m faced with the reality of moving out (willingly of course – my mom would love it if I just stayed!).
The gentle plummet to adulthood begins, I suppose, with the apartment hunt. In New York, this process is much more intense than I would like I’ve long since spent my signing bonus on a month-long European vacation, so fiscal responsibility isn’t really high on my list of capabilities. In fact, my savvier friends are teaching me to budget.
That being said, once upon a time, I claimed I would never live outside of Downtown Manhattan. Anywhere south of 14th St. would suffice, but sky-high rents and a budget that never seems big enough has convinced me to consider some other options as well. Don’t get me wrong… I’m still not considering anything north of 14th, but I am looking East towards Brooklyn (i.e. Williamsburg). Something about paying hundreds of dollars less for double the space just speaks to my soul.
